BHP Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd., an India based heavy engineering unit, required a SAP Business One implementation at their manufacturing unit. They wanted a solution that would enable them to integrate their finance and inventory control processes into a single framework thereby providing them with a single source for all the business data. They also wanted to reduce the costs being incurred on the maintenance of their existing custom built ERP system. BHP teamed up with e-Tomato Consulting for the implementation of the SAP Business One system. With the successful implementation BHP was able to monitor and track their order cycles in a better and more cost effective manner.
Customer Profile
BHP Infrastructure Pvt. Limited is a heavy engineering company based out of the National Capital Region in India. In operation for more than 20 years, BHP has successfully served clients, globally, in the Cement, Construction and Mining & Mineral industries. BHP’s areas of specialization include Contract Manufacturing for OEMs, Crushing and Screening Plants, Material Handling systems and Conveying Equipments.
Business Requirements
BHP was using a custom built ERP system to manage their business processes. However the lack of integration of the ERP system with the financials and the huge costs being incurred on the maintenance of the system were proving to be a deterrent in the success of the system at the factory. To overcome these difficulties they desired the implementation of the SAP Business One system at their factory. The objective was to integrate their business processes into a single framework so as to enable better monitoring and tracking of the inventory and orders. Since, sub-contracting is an integral part of their business, BHP required the solution to store and track the sub-contracting details in an efficient manner. The system was required to help the decision makers in proper MIS and analysis thereby leading to better and more profitable decision making.
Implementation of SAP Business One at BHP
e-Tomato consulting implemented the SAP Business One system at the factory of BHP. We worked closely with the process experts at BHP so as to gain a better understanding and insight into the processes being followed at the factory. This enabled us to correctly map the business processes to the SAP Business One system. Within the SAP Business One system the following processes were mapped to the system: Finance, Inventory Management, Purchases, Sales, Service Management, Sub-Contracting, Production and Quality Control.
Several add-on modules were developed and integrated with the SAP Business One core modules. These include:
Quality Control: Through the Quality Control add-on module managers could perform quality checks, on incoming as well as finished goods, and store the results of the same in the system. An analysis of the results via means of various reports helps in reducing the number of rejections and delays. The quality control data can also be used to analyze the performance of and generate ratings for various suppliers and vendors.
Production Planning: Through the Production Planning module managers can track and schedule the production orders on the basis of machine availability. The Production Planning module integrated with the SAP Business One system enabled BHP to automate their production planning process (which was a manual process prior to the implementation) thereby enabling managers to effectively track the production orders and determine whether or not the delivery schedules will be met.
• Reduction in the high costs pertaining to the maintenance of their existing ERP system.
• SAP Business One enabled BHP to integrate the financial data with that of the inventory and order providing an accurate picture of the performance of the business.
• A manual process for production planning was being followed at BHP. With the integration of the Production Planning module with the SAP Business One system, BHP can schedule, track and monitor the progress of their production orders in a better and more efficient manner.
• With the numerous reports available in SAP Business One, BHP managers are aided in the MIS and analysis.
• As a result of the SAP Business One implementation, BHP is able to manage their business in a more efficient and cost effective manner.
Summary
e-Tomato has provided BHP Infrastructure with a single centralized system to streamline and integrate all their business processes. The implementation of the SAP Business One system has helped BHP in reducing the operational and administrative costs. It has also enabled BHP to manage operations and business growth in a more effective and efficient manner.
