Haryana Leather Chemicals Limited is an India based manufacturing concern that specializes in the manufacture of chemicals used in the possessing of leather goods and shoes. A joint venture with an Italian company ICAP SIRA, HLCL offers its range of chemical products to clients across the globe.
Business Requirements
With the aim of streaming all their business processes into a single framework, HLCL required the implementation of the SAP Business One software package. At HLCL, their business operations were managed through multiple disparate systems. Consolidating data to provide an overview of the performance and day-to-day operations was difficult. They required a system that would integrate all their business processes and streamline the flow of information and data between concerned functional departments. The system was also required to enable decision makers to generate accurate and reliable statistical and analytical reports enabling them to take better and more profitable decisions thereby leading to a growth in the business.
Implementation of SAP Business One at HLCL
e-Tomato Consulting implemented SAP Business One at three locations of HLCL – at the corporate head office, their manufacturing unit and their export unit. The Finance, Inventory Management, Purchases, Sales, CRM, Service Management, Production and Quality Control business processes were mapped to the SAP Business One system. For the implementation process, our team interacted closely with the various business process heads at HLCL. This enabled us to gain an understanding of the processes being followed at HLCL.
To meet HLCL’s requirements, we developed various add-ons that were integrated with the solution. These include:
Quality Control: Through the Quality Control add-on module managers could perform quality checks, on incoming as well as finished goods, and store the results of the same in the system. An analysis of the results via means of various reports helps in reducing the number of rejections and delays. The quality control data can also be used to analyze the performance of and generate ratings for various suppliers and vendors.
Packaging Module: Being a chemical manufacturing unit, HLCL incurs huge costs on packaging and transport materials i.e. containers used in transporting the chemicals. Lack of a proper system for tracking the containers was resulting in huge losses being incurred due to pilferaging etc. Since the SAP Business One core modules do not include this functionality, we decided to develop an add-on which could be integrated with the system. Through the packaging module HLCL can create a database of all containers used for packing and transporting the chemicals. It also includes interfaces that enable managers to record details of the container being used, the amount of chemicals contained in them and the date on which it was packed. Detailed reports can be generated enabling HLCL managers to monitor the containers.
